6. “In Māori culture, everyone helps out and shares work, food, and day-to-day tasks.”

Explain how this is similar, or different in your own culture. If you are Maori, explain what this looks like.

→In my whanau whether it is cooking or cleaning or helping in the community we all have parts to play. Sometimes my jobs are easier because I am younger and smaller, but my Mama said that everybody's jobs are important and without my jobs the whanau could not function properly. My mama also says that if you have more than what you need you should give it to someone else who is in need, like when we make a lot of food.  I am Maori and Cook Island and these values are important and similar in both of my cultures.

7. What do you think the contents of a pepeha tell us about Tangata Maori (Maori people) and their relationship with the environment?

→My mama tells me that the environment is important and tells me who I am and where I come from. That the land is what calls to me and where I will always be welcomed.  My mountain, the river and the surrounding environment will always know who I am.
